MacroActive is delighted to offer scholarships for two students from Manurewa High School, giving them support towards their tertiary fees, the rare opportunity for one-on-one mentoring with the Founder of MacroActive and a paid summer internship opportunity before they commence their tertiary studies. 


What does the MacroActive Scholarship include?

  1. $5000 cash contribution towards the recipient’s first year of tertiary fees and/or expenses
  2. Mentoring from the Founder of MacroActive
  3. Laptop and start up software, including MacroActive Lite and Microsoft Office 
  4. Paid summer internship at MacroActive, commencing between the recipient’s final year of secondary education and first year of tertiary study
  5. Opportunity to renew the Scholarship upon successful completion of the summer internship


Who are we looking for? 

  • Current Manurewa High School students in Year 13, with an interest in physical fitness and/or nutrition. Two recipients will be selected, one female and one male. 
  • Applicants should be able to demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Applicants must intend to enrol for full-time study at a New Zealand tertiary institution in the year following the application and have achieved the entry requirements for their chosen programme. Applicants should be able to show they have the academic potential to succeed. 
  • Applicants must have recommendations from at least one school administrator and one school coach or teacher. 
  • Applicants must be New Zealand citizens or permanent residents. 


MacroActive will consider the following factors in awarding the scholarships: 

  • Leadership potential, in school and/or in the community (e.g. Church, Marae, sports, arts and/or other community endeavours)
  • Academic achievement in relevant subjects or disciplines 
  • Financial need and/or life circumstances which present significant barriers to study at a tertiary level
  • Potential and genuine interest in pursuing a career related to physical fitness and/or nutrition. 


Key dates


  • Applications open on 4 October 2021 and close on 29 October 2021. Applications must be submitted by 5pm on the closing date. 
  • Interviews will be held between 1-5 November 2021
  • Offers will be made by 12 November 2021
  • Presentation of Scholarships at Senior Prizegiving TBC



TERMS AND CONDITIONS


  1. Applications must be submitted by 5:00pm on 22 October 2021. Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted. 
  2. Offers of the Scholarship are conditional upon:
  3. the recipient’s full enrolment in an eligible full-year programme by 15th February 2022. An eligible full-year programme is a full-time tertiary-level programme provided by a New Zealand university, institute of technology, polytechnic or wānanga; and
  4. the recipient gaining NCEA Level 3. 
  5. An offer of the Scholarship must be accepted by the specified date in the offer letter. If the applicant does not accept the offer by the specified date, the offer of the Scholarship will lapse. 
  6. The Scholarship cannot be deferred to a later year. 
  7. A laptop and software will be presented to the recipient at their Senior Prize Giving ceremony. 
  8. The cash contribution will be paid in two installments as follows:
  9. The first payment of $2500 will be made to the recipient’s nominated bank account in the first semester or equivalent of the recipient’s first year of tertiary study. Payment will only be made after MacroActive has received satisfactory proof of acceptance and full enrolment into an eligible full-year programme
  10. The second payment of $2500 will be made to the recipient’s nominated bank account in the second semester or equivalent of the recipient’s first year of tertiary study. Payment will only be made after MacroActive has received satisfactory proof of acceptance and full enrolment in second semester or equivalent courses, and a copy of the recipient’s academic record showing satisfactory grades attained in the first semester. This academic record can be an unofficial transcript. 
  11. If the recipient does not pass 50% or more of the points in their first semester or equivalent papers, they will not be eligible for the second payment of the Scholarship.
  12. Provided clauses 1 to 4 of these Terms and Conditions are met, the recipient will be offered a paid internship in the summer period between their final year of secondary education and first year of tertiary education. Specific start and end dates will be negotiated with the recipient after acceptance of the Scholarship. The recipient will be engaged as an independent contractor for the duration of the internship and New Zealand law will apply. 
  13. MacroActive reserves the right to change these Terms and Conditions at any time. In particular, these Terms and Conditions may be modified in special circumstances, or where deemed necessary to avoid hardship for the recipient of the Scholarship.
